Who is NeVar and NeVara?

Nevar© and his mate NeVara© are a not so common raven pair. Together, they have become the mascots and narrators for this website.

Ravens were chosen for their intelligence, sociability and adaptability. They have been companions to humankind for all of recorded history and are a rich part of our folklore. To some ravens are evil. To others they are revered as noble spirits. And so ravens were chosen to tell the story of Mount Tom and why the ridge that makes up the spine of Holyoke should be preserved largely as undeveloped open space.

Should you have skills in animation, graphic arts, audio and video recording, photography, voice-overs, research, law, and would like to help tell the story of the Mt. Tom Range, please leave a comment under Recent Posts.

Business and Residental Benefit

The are numerous businesses and residents in the immediate area of the Mt. Tom Range that benefit from preservation of the range largely as open space.  Here is just a few:

1.  Wyckoff Country Club, an “eighteen hole par 69, 6100 yard championship golf course” built on rolling property adjacent to Whiting Street Reservoir and near some of Mt. Tom’s scenic vistas.

2. Holyoke Country Club is a challenging nine hole course tucked up against the northeast side of Mt. Tom State Reservation.

3.  The historically famous Mountain Park has come back to life as a well attended summer outdoor musical amphitheater.

4.  The Delaney House Restaurant and D Hotel

5.  Competitive Edge Ski and Sport

6.  Summit View Banquet and Meeting House

7. Holyoke Animal Hospital

8. Tavern On The Hill

9. Slainte Restaurant

10.  Residents in close proximity both in Holyoke and the Easthampton/Southampton areas enjoy higher property values.

In short, preserving the Mt. Tom Range is GOOD business.
