Mt. Tom’s nearly six miles of ridge-line, from its peak with a 360 degree view, and surrounding mix of tree canopies leading to expansive meadows, hidden wetlands, is also home to Mt. Tom State Reservation and its 22 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and a diverse population of plants and animals ideally suited for student and professional studies. Two golf courses complement, as does the 3 1/2 mile service road around Whiting Reservoir. For passive recreation in close proximity to five surrounding cities, Mt. Tom and its nearly 13-plus miles of ridge-lines from the Connecticut River in Holyoke and Easthampton, MA, to Bear Hole in West Springfield, is a jewel to be preserved largely as undeveloped open space for the families of our future.
